Looking for the perfect Byron Bay wedding venue for your big day? Introducing EarthHouse – a unique new wedding venue set in the Byron Bay Hinterland, and one of our favourite places to work.

The first time we saw the venue in person we were completely blown away by this breathtaking structure and picturesque location. We recently spoke to venue manager Munro about all things EarthHouse including the inspiration behind the venue and the fascinating building process. We recommend adding this venue to your ‘must see’ checklist!

What was your inspiration behind the venue design?

The EarthHouse philosophy is tasteful simplicity. The wedding pavilion and accommodation are constructed from rammed-earth, a material chosen for its unique aesthetics and exceptional thermal qualities. The extensive use of glass, the high ceilings and wide verandahs take full advantage of the spectacular 180 degree views overlooking the Nightcap Ranges, situated in the stunning Byron Bay Hinterland.  EarthHouse has been designed as the perfect blank canvas for couples to create their dream wedding.

Can you give us some insight into the building process?

From council approval to building completion the entire process took almost 2 years. Although the rammed earth finish is extremely natural and  beautifully simple, the building process is quiet technical. The 4 main building materials that feature through all EarthHouse buildings and the beautiful gardens are the rammed earth, local stone, exposed timbers and polished concrete- A match made in heaven. EarthHouse is continually evolving as we work towards becoming the NorthCoasts premiere destination for weddings, events and accommodation

What has been your most memorable moment so far from an EarthHouse wedding?

There have been many memorable moments during the first year at EarthHouse. Having the very first wedding and realising that all the big ideas and hard work had become a reality. It is such a privilege being  part of one of the biggest days in someones life.
In the first year there has been no two weddings the same. Every celebration has been unique because of the ‘blank canvas’ offered at the EarthHouse. This allows couples to put their own personal stamp on their big day. Seeing the 100 year old fig tree lit up in all its glory has also been a highlight.

What sets your venue apart from others?

Private, and exclusive with breathtaking  mountain and hinterland views.  Manicured gardens and beautiful stone work complete with a magnificent 100 year-old fig tree. No attention to detail has been overlooked! The quality of all the facilities has been finished to the highest of standards. Situated on a 110 acre property EarthHouse is ideally located from Byron Bay and Bangalow, Ballina, Coolangatta and Brisbane airports. Importantly EarthHouse is an all-weather venue- If you are going to get married in the Northern Rivers it is very wise to have a wet weather back up. Our point of difference is that we are entirely purpose built and can cater for small intimate weddings, all the way up 150 guests without the need for marquee or portable bathroom hire. There is an undercover purpose built catering space also located in the wedding pavilion, and a large emergency generator wired into the venue in the unlikely event of power loss.

What would be your best words of advice to newly-engaged couples trying to choose a wedding venue?

From my point of view, be wary of hidden extras – Venue hire may seem very reasonable, but if you need to hire a marquee, portable bathrooms, generators etc costs can get quickly escalate . It can be very overwhelming trying to choose the venue that is right for your needs. There is a lot of choice around and every venue is different….enjoy the process.
