When the couple describe their day as an “ethereal disco fairyland”, you know you’re in for something pretty special! Clare & Dann celebrated their love with an intimate wedding at Friday Hut Road Estate in Byron Bay, and the details were seriously magic from beginning to end.

Drawing on Clare’s creative background as the floral designer behind Fleur & Threads, these guys created a dreamy outdoor celebration underneath a naked tipi complete with disco balls, fairy lights and eclectic decor. Our black dining tables were paired with our white Soho chairs for a modern luxe look, with textural tablescapes adorned with crystals and statement blooms.

The picturesque grounds of Friday Hut Road provided the most incredible natural backdrop for this intimate day, with a pretty amazing team of suppliers on board to bring it all to life. We loved hearing all about Clare & Dann’s experience planning and styling their wedding, and are excited to share some of the gorgeous imagery (captured by Jimmy Raper Photography) below.

Keep reading for a peek at their dreamy Byron Bay celebration, along with some words of wedding planning advice and inspiration from the newlyweds!

Describe your wedding day:

Our wedding day was super relaxed. Our aim was to have our ceremony as the main event for the day, which we planned to be a sacred ceremony by a river. We wanted the day to be about our love and how far we have both come within ourselves, as people and as a couple.

In planning every stage of the event, Dann and I really wanted to evoke a lot of heartfelt emotion. And that was achieved & taken to another level. There wasn’t a dry eye in the house for the entire event. It was so so magical.

We chose to only have a very small wedding of 27 people, and we both felt that this was the reason for this heartfelt experience, as only our very very nearest and dearest were present. We knew that each and every person there loved us with their whole hearts.

What were the highlights on the day?

The ceremony.

And dancing under a disco ball lit up with warm light under the stars.

There were so many special in-between intimate moments, too many to choose. I was just so happy to marry the love of my life. Dann and I kept looking each other saying, “Is this real?”. All of our guests were beyond blown away with what we designed for our wedding, it was beyond all of our plans, and so so beautiful.

What was the feel and style of your wedding: Ethereal, disco fairyland.

Where did you find inspiration for your wedding day? We found inspiration for our day based on our love for each other, and both of our personal styles. It’s hard to pinpoint where the inspiration came from as we were brainstorming and vibing on ideas together for quite a while. In the end, we felt we wanted to create an ethereal disco in nature. We were really inspired by Friday Hut Road (our wedding venue) and the area outside where we had the naked tipi – every idea we dreamt up was drawn directly from the mountainous landscape.

Talk us through your wedding day attire: My dress was a custom design by the incredible wonder that is Wolff & Bone – Tegan.

She somehow bought all of my ideas into reality, I was so blown away. She was so open and collaborative, if there was any issue she fixed it straight away and her corrections were perfection. My accessories were from Molten Store, and my engagement ring & wedding ring are both by Communion By Joy Smith.

The suit was also custom made by the incredible Omast 17. It’s hard to explain the style, I’ve never seen another suit like it. The pants were semi high-waisted and this gorgeous linen blend in a soft blue/grey tone. The jacket was a slightly warmer cream tone, with a silky white dress shirt underneath. The fitting of the suit was so immaculate too – Omast is an artist of fabric.

Tell us about your wedding suppliers and why you chose them: Our venue was Friday Hut Road Estate in Byron Bay. We chose them because the property felt right. Our caterers were Friday Hut Dining – they are on the same property and their food was amazing!

Our celebrant was the angel Anna Balston of Rhythm Keeper. The best decision we made was having Anna come and lead us in a yoga class the morning of the wedding. She set the tone for the whole entire day. Dann and I are actually her biggest fans and we wish we lived the same state! Her energy is contagious. She is a very, very special human.

Carolyn Jayun was on hair – she is a genius! And the angels from Kyzo Creative were on makeup. Because we had such a small wedding guest group, everyone got their hair and make up done so everyone looked and felt amazing on the day – this was super important to Dann and I.

Byron Bay Tipi Weddings lit up a naked tipi that we set up on the lawn and dined underneath, complete with fairy lights and a disco ball. I added in clear helium balloons covered in fairy lights around the property too, which added the coolest effect!

Cloudherd Film Co were our videographers – as soon as I met them and worked together with Jem & Taku on a shoot I knew straight away that they were the ones.

And Jimmy Raper on photography – because he is the best of the best.

What was your experience like planning your wedding: I loved the planning at the start! But as the day got closer we both got a little stressed (as everyone does). We were both really set on the vendors we wanted to work with and they all made the process easy for us.

How did you manage your budget? We just paced ourselves and paid everything bit by bit.

Do you have any tips for other brides? Find the vendors that speak to your soul and go with them. They will bring your vision to life and exceed all expectations.

If you could do it all over again, is there anything you would change? Not a thing.
