Describe your wedding day: Humbling, warm, and incredibly special.

What were the highlights on the day? Apart from marrying my wonderful man, both of us keeping it together was a big win! (There were many tears in our eyes, but we avoided turning into blubbering messes.)

The buzz of anticipation and excitement I felt when getting ready with close family and friends before the ceremony was so special too – it’s easy to get caught up in focusing on the ceremony / reception, but this was such a fun time!

Seeing our nephews and niece run around playing with the confetti after the ceremony was priceless too; witnessing and being a part of pure, innocent joy, brought a lightness to what can be such a traditionally formal occasion. This was beautiful to experience and look back on in photos.

What was the feel and style of your wedding? “Queensland cocktail”; colourful, casually elegant, light, fun.

If you could do it all over again, is there anything you would change? In an ideal world, I would have absolutely everything organised prior to family/friends arriving to stay, as well as getting more sleep in the week leading up to the wedding day (it was tiring, but unquestionably worth it!)

Do you have any tips for other brides?

  • Get photos with everyone – even if your cheeks are sore, you will appreciate them later!

  • Schedule time with your partner after the ceremony / during the reception when you step away from the party briefly; it’s so lovely to take a few moments together, observe the festivities in real time and take in what is such a wonderful occasion – which, from experience, is over so quickly. With everyone essentially being brought together for the sake of you and your partner, you will be constantly chatting to everyone (which is great!). However, the day can fly by without you taking time to experience the present moment and take it all in. I highly recommend this!

  • Let family and friends help you if they offer – it can make it even more special for them seeing their contribution to the day and knowing they’ve made, even a small part of it, a little easier for you.
