About Midginbil Eco Resort

Midginbil Eco Resort is a family owned and operated farm property, set across 400 acres in the Northern Rivers, NSW.

This unique location specialises in DIY weddings, offering a 3-day venue hire package and ample on-site accommodation for your guests including lodge rooms, bell tents and glamping tents.

Bursting with chilled country vibes and fresh rainforest air, Midginbil Eco Resort is ideally suited for couples looking to plan a relaxed wedding weekend with their nearest and dearest. The space also allows BYO alcohol, allowing you to keep costs down.

On top of the hill, you’ll find a majestic old fig tree with sweeping views out to Mt Warning – the perfect backdrop for an outdoor ceremony. Guests can then enjoy cocktails and canapes on the lawn before heading inside Midginbil’s authentic barn for an intimate country-style reception. Sounds pretty magic to us!

Behind The Scenes at Midginbil Eco Resort

What was the inspiration behind the venue, and where did it all begin?

We purchased the business in January 2021, although weddings have been held here for years. Midginbil started as a campground in the 1970’s, then became an outdoor education centre in the 80’s. In the 2000’s, someone had a DIY wedding here, and that’s where the 3-day DIY wedding bloomed!

Midginbil is a caravan park and campground with a variety of accommodation. It’s the perfect location and property for unique country weddings. We absolutely love this property, the location and hosting weddings. It’s just a chilled vibe at Midginbil – weddings cruise over the 3 days and everyone has a ball, including us! Everyone is so happy to be together and celebrate their friend or family member’s wedding.

My husband and I owned and operated a holiday park in the Riverina and were on acreage on Lake Hume in NSW for 7 years prior to purchasing Midginbil. It was a real family park, which also held school camps, group events and the occasional wedding. We come from a farming background (well, I married a 4th generation farmer) so we are so happy to be in the wedding industry and still get to live on a farm and run cattle!

What kind of weddings are best suited to your venue?

We are a country wedding venue on a 400-acre property. Midginbil attracts fun, chilled couples wanting a unique, DIY, country-style and affordable wedding. They want a venue where all their guests can stay onsite and enjoy catching up with family and friends over a few days.

Can you share some of the cool features your venue has to offer?

We have accommodation for all your guests – campground, bunkhouse, bell tents, glamping tents, cottage and lodge rooms. We also have a solar heated pool, tennis court, volleyball net and rainforest walk for guests to enjoy during their stay.

Guests pay for their accommodation and meals package. We don’t provide the meal for the wedding reception – that’s organised by the couple – but we do cater for the supplementary meals over the three days, which includes dinner, 2 x cooked breakfasts and a light lunch before the wedding. It’s BYO alcohol for the BBQ we do on the first night, and then the couple arrange the alcohol for the wedding reception. This makes it super affordable for our couples.

Our fig tree perched up on the hill is a stunning location for the wedding ceremony. It has stunning 360-degree views – one side out to Mt Warning, and the other to the escarpments of the NightCap National Park. The barn is a perfect blank canvas to decorate for the wedding reception, and up at the original 1906 homestead is the large bridal room, where the secret women’s business happens.

The wedding couple and their guests also get to enjoy the bonfire which is the perfect way to end a wonderful day – sharing stories of the day’s events, listening to some tunes or a friend playing the guitar, and enjoying a drink.

Wedding Styling Inspiration for Midginbil Eco Resort

Midginbil Eco Resort is the ultimate blank canvas to bring your DIY vision to life!

Relaxed country-inspired styling works beautifully at this unique barn venue. Opt for earthy timbers, oatmeal and walnut tones for a warm, rustic look, and add a splash of colour with fresh greenery and hints of terracotta or blush.

Our wine barrels, bentwood stools and umbrellas are ideal for decking out your cocktail hour on the lawn, while our timber tables and cross back chairs will create a relaxed and intimate feel for your reception. A comfy lounge package with patterned rugs and cushions will also help to create a cosy chill-out area for your guests.

Add some extra detail and a hint of luxury to your table settings with our decorative glassware, coloured linen napkins and rattan charger plates. Finally, opt for one of our timber bars for drink service, and consider a statement backdrop for your bridal table or photo booth!
