MODERN NAVY: COLOUR PALETTE

Obviously, navy will be your hero colour to create this kind of modern and contemporary look. But it’s important to choose complementary colours to round out your design and allow those rich navy tones to really shine through!

We love pairing bold navy hues with crisp whites, and metallics like gold and bronze. For a more relaxed and understated look, you could also pair navy as an accent colour with subtle, earthier tones like light timber and even bamboo.

If you want to throw another colour into the mix, try a softer blue with undertones of grey, or if you’re feeling bold we also love seeing navy paired with teal or blush. Just ensure that your chosen accent colours aren’t competing with the navy, but are used instead as a way to create balance. Navy can be a strong colour, so try to keep your navy elements at between 20-50% of the design, and use your accent colours, neutral tones and metallic details to form the remainder.

MODERN NAVY: FURNITURE AND DECOR

If you’ve been keeping up to date with our socials, you can probably guess what we’re loving at the moment when it comes to navy furniture… yep, it’s velvet! Our new velvet navy pieces are our top pick for a truly modern luxe look, with our range of lounges, armchairs and ottomans all working perfectly to create a contemporary and sophisticated vibe for any wedding.

For a cocktail wedding, we love our navy velvet lounge furniture paired with sleek, high-end pieces like our Icelandic marble dry bars and gold and white wire stools. Or, for a more low-key look, our bamboo lounges work perfectly with our navy ottomans and navy cushions.

For sit-down receptions, we can’t go past our timber feasting tables as a neutral base, paired with white or gold dining chairs, classic white plates and luxurious navy linen napkins to add a pop of colour into place settings.

MODERN NAVY: FLORAL DESIGN

Instead of trying to incorporate navy into all of your floral arrangements, we actually find that simple whites and greens can work best to balance out this look. In particular, fresh white orchids and lush trailing greenery! Tropical foliage works especially well to complement rich navy tones, as opposed to the more rustic greens that can sometimes appear dull in this kind of colour scheme.

For a pop of colour, anemones or delphiniums can add a soft navy undertone to bouquets, table arrangements and backdrops. In terms of vases for your floral arrangements, we recommend vessels in fresh whites, pale grey, or gold. Stone, concrete and marble finishes will also work beautifully, along with backdrops in white wire or steel.

MODERN NAVY: STYLING DETAILS

As always, it will be those smaller styling details like your stationery, lighting and cake design that really help to tie your entire look together cohesively.

For stationery and paper goods, we can’t go past modern navy and white cardstock with simple but beautiful calligraphy for a clean and sophisticated feel. Keep it minimal and un-fussy, as the rich navy tones will make a strong impact on their own.

We recommend following the same rule with your cake design – a simple white cake with detailed navy elements,  fresh white blooms or some minimal greenery is the perfect pick for this modern theme.

And finally – lighting! We LOVE seeing a navy setting with a tropical twist, by utilising hanging woven baskets – or, for a more refined look, some white or gold pendants can create a truly luxurious ambience for your reception.
