Bring the Wow Factor with a Champagne Tower at Your Next Event

If you’re looking for a way to surprise guests at your next event, a champagne tower can be just the thing. It adds a stunning focal point for the room and it helps to add an air of sophistication and luxury to the celebration or gala, too. A great idea is to get your team, family, friends, or even guests to help make the champagne tower, as the experience will give them something to bond over and chat about for days.

When to Use a Champagne Tower During an Event

Before you make a champagne fountain, think about when you want to reveal it. Timing is crucial, and it’s usually best to get the champagne flowing through your tower during some sort of high point of the event. For example, bring on the champers when you say cheers to a big corporate announcement, the happy couple, or the birthday boy or girl, or even to get the festivities flowing when guests first enter an event space. Champagne towers often get assembled just before a toast or mark the grand finale of an occasion, too.

Getting Started: Gather Your Supplies

Before you start the fun of your DIY champagne tower build, gather all the supplies you’ll need. You want a sturdy base to build your wine glass tower on, such as a table or custom-built platform. Whatever you use, it needs to be strong enough to support the weight of many glasses plus the alcohol. Of course, you’ll also want a collection of beautiful glasses ready to go, plus bottles of champagne when it’s time to get the bubbles flowing.

If you’re wondering, “How many glasses for a champagne tower?” the answer is, it depends! It varies according to the number of tiers you want to create and the overall size of your tower. You’ll generally want at least 30-50 coupe glasses all up, though. You’ll also want multiple bottles of champagne, keeping in mind that one bottle will fill around 5 glasses.

How to Create a 4-Tier Champagne Tower

Once you have your supplies, it’s time to start building! To learn how to make a 4-tier champagne tower, start by getting your table or platform foundation nice and level. Then, position 16 large champagne glasses (also known as coupe glasses) in a neat, four-by-four square shape (so four rows of four glasses). Carefully place nine glasses on top of those in a 3×3 square, evenly spread, to make the second tier, then four glasses in a 2×2 pattern on top of those to make the third tier. The final tier is the single coupe carefully placed on top. This will make a tower approximately 45cm x 65cm High

Once you have completed your ever-popular four-tier champagne tower, slowly pour your bubbles into each glass. Always start from the top tier and work your way down. Don’t overfill, either, as this can create spillage. Once the glasses are filled, check the small champagne tower is stable and all glasses secure. If you want to increase the overall effect of your tower, you could also garnish each glass at the end with edible flowers or fresh fruit.

How to Create a 5-Tier Champagne Tower

If you’d like to up the ante a little and opt for a 5-tier champagne tower, much will be as per the 4-tier tower, but you need to add another larger layer of glasses first. For the base level, start with 25 coupe glasses in a 5×5 square. From there, add glasses in the same way as you did for the 4-tier tower. This will make a tower approximately 56cm x 80cm High. Ensure all the glasses are stable and level, and then pour champagne into each.

Start pouring from the top tier, avoid overfilling, and check for stability at all times. If you’d like to go a little more “wow” for a 5-tier champagne tower, you could top it off with decorative elements like LED lights or cascading ribbons placed carefully throughout or around the display.

How to Create a 6-Tier Champagne Tower

For the ultimate “look at me” display, go big or go home with a 6-tier champagne tower. This time, you’ll start with a base of 36 coupe glasses in a 6×6 grid. From there, follow the instructions as per the 5-tier tower to get to the 6 tiers in total. This will make a tower approximately 67cm x 96cm High. As before, pour champagne from the top tier, work your way down, and avoid overfilling. You could add both floral and lighting garnishes to this tower or any other creative ideas you come up with.
