As a bride, there are a million and one things on your wedding planning checklist to tick off before the big day. There are some tasks that are a clear priority such as securing the date and venue, and there are other tasks that may not seem super important at the time but can cause stress later down the track if neglected. Which leads us to – the importance of hiring tables and chairs as early as possible for your wedding!

We can tell you straight away that tables and chairs are always the first items to book out for weddings. Working in the hire industry we have seen firsthand the disappointment of couples who have their heart set on the perfect combination of tables and chairs, but are too late to secure them as they are already booked out on their date (leading to a whole lot of unwanted stress and panic!) Make sure you keep the following tips in mind when looking to hire tables and chairs for your wedding:

1.     BE AWARE OF PEAK SEASON

There are certain months of the year where we are blessed with beautiful sunny weather and gorgeous blooms in season. So understandably, these months are the most popular choices for weddings! If your wedding falls on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday during peak season (for us this is March – May and again between September – November) then you definitely should be looking at securing your priority items such as tables and chairs as early as possible.  For weddings during peak season we recommend getting in touch 10 – 12 months in advance to lock in your tables and chairs. Other dates to book out super fast include anything before a public holiday or long weekend, so keep these in mind too.

2.     ADD OTHER PIECES ALONG THE WAY

There may be some a whole bunch of other furniture and decor you are considering along with tables and chairs – such as cocktail furniture, decorative crockery and glassware, textiles or linen.  If you aren’t 100% sure on those other décor items, don’t let it stop you from locking in the key pieces first! You can always secure the tables and chairs initially, and then add other bits and pieces along the way once decisions are made.

3.     DONT WAIT FOR YOUR FINAL NUMBERS

Another reason you may be holding back from securing your tables and chairs is because you might not have a 100% definite idea of guest numbers. We totally understand that RSVP’s might come in under the expected numbers, so have a reduction policy in place for all bookings with tables and chairs. You are much better off booking for your anticipated numbers and slightly reducing this, than not booking enough and having to add items closer to the date when they may no longer be available.

4.     DOUBLE CHECK YOUR VENUE PACKAGE

You may not initially think to hire in tables and chairs as they might already be included in your venue package. It probably goes without saying but if you are using tables and chairs from the venue, double check exactly what is included – do the trestle tables come with or without linen? Are the chairs plastic and do they come with covers? And this is a big one – do they suit the vision you have in mind? Sometimes couples will spend an excessive amount of money on table decorations, flowers, lighting and linen, to compensate for plastic tables and chairs that may not be the most appealing. It makes sense that if you invest in some beautiful high quality tables and chairs, you won’t have to spend so much time (and money) dressing the tables. Make sure you confirm this as early as possible so you can make the call on whether you would prefer to bring in your own furniture.

5.     THINK ABOUT YOUR FLOOR PLAN

The number of tables you require doesn’t always directly correlate to the number of guests at your wedding. Different floor plan layouts are going to require a different amount of tables. Are you planning on long rows? A U-shaped layout? Individual guest tables? A separate bridal table? Do you want guests seated at the heads of tables, or sides only? Do you want another table for kids only? Try to get a general idea of your floor plan so that you can make a realistic decision on how many tables you will need to secure.
