No amount of rain could dampen the love-filled wedding of Ashley & Alex – not even a tropical cyclone!!
This beautiful country-style wedding at Mt Pleasant Hall is a true reminder of what weddings should be about – love, family, friends and celebration. After waking up to flash flooding, crazy weather and no hot water, Ashley + Alex along with their amazing team of suppliers overcame the odds to create one seriously gorgeous wedding.
Our walnut bentwood chairs, wooden dining tables and crystal glassware were the perfect touch to complete Ashley’s vision of a homely, rustic wedding in the hall. Earthy tones and native flowers (arranged by the bride herself!) tied the styling together, while twinkling fairy lights created a warm and intimate ambience below.
More beautiful imagery from Dean Raphael below, along with some wise words from the bride on dealing with last-minute dramas, trusting your wedding suppliers, and focusing on what’s really important!
Describe your wedding day? Our wedding day was a country, rustic DIY wedding. Our focus for the day was about the love Alex and I have for each other and FAMILY.
Where was your wedding venue and why did you choose them? Henzell’s Chapel at Mount Pleasant and the Mount Pleasant Community Hall. We loved the country style (hence the hall set up), but we fell in love with Henzell’s Chapel – it was the first venue we looked at and we locked it in straight away.
Who was your photographer and why did you choose them? Dean Raphael. We chose Dean based on his ability to capture REAL MOMENTS – not staged photographs. He did the best job and we are so glad he was part of our team on the day!
What was your experience like planning your wedding? I found a great team of suppliers (such as Hampton Event Hire), the catering and more – you really meet some really beautiful people that are willing to go above and beyond to make your day GREAT!
What was the feel and style of your wedding? Country, rustic + FAMILY!
Who was your wedding planner/stylist and why did you choose them? I did it all myself!
Where did you purchase your dress and accessories from? The dress was hand-made and designed by the beautiful team at Hilde Heim – with the help of my amazing husband too! The ladies there are just so wonderful and helpful – they really created my dream dress! Accessories were mostly from an antique fair at Esk.
Who was your caterer and why did you choose them? 5 Sisters @ South Brisbane. We chose them as they are run by a family of 5 daughters and their Greek food is SO GOOD! Their support was outstanding and I would not hesitate to recommend them.
Do you have any tips for other brides? When sh*t hits the fan, and everything starts to go wrong (bad weather being the key factor here), just remember the most important things are – getting married + enjoying yourself with loved ones! You can still have an amazing day and we are proof of that!
If you could do it all over again, is there anything you would change? No – despite waking up to flash flooding, a tornado, no hot water at our house, and a whirlwind of external dramas/pressures, the day turned out to be so beautiful! It really was a testament of the love Alex and I have for each other.
One of the most important things I found when planning my wedding was that you need to choose your suppliers based on trust! You need to be able to TRUST that they will get to your wedding venue through rain, hail or shine. All of our suppliers did just that – through a tropical cyclone actually! I found Hampton Event Hire to be so accommodating, so supportive and friendly; I am so glad that they were part of our day and I cannot thank them enough!
