The ceremony was conducted in the stunning Summergrove chapel, continuing the celebration in the barn with food and drinks flowing. “Our friends and family mingled and enjoyed the amazing scenery while standing around high bars or lazy on comfy lounges.”
Having attended other weddings of friends this bride knew exactly what she did and didn’t want. Drawing inspiration from a relaxed vibe where guests can mingle and formalities aren’t set in stone. “I wanted to do things my way. I planned and organised everything myself and looking back I loved everything about the day.”

What was the feel and style of your wedding?:
The feel of our wedding was fun and relaxed. I styled our wedding using lounges, bars, rugs, pillows and lanterns that all fitted into a neutral colour scheme. It was free flowing and chilled.
I was born on the Gold Coast and Josh was born in Dubbo and we wanted to get married somewhere beautiful, but also somewhere where all of our family and friends would have to travel and have a holiday. I can’t even put into words how amazing Summergrove Estate is!
What were the highlights on the day?:
I had two main highlights of my day. The first was when I finally got to see Josh after the ceremony had finished and we were walking to our first photography spot. People had been telling me all morning that he was an absolute mess, so when I got to talk to him I asked him how he was. He told me that he had been stressed and anxious all morning but as soon as he saw me walk down the aisle he felt an instant calm like everything was going to be ok.
My second favourite moment of the day was when I stopped at around 9pm to just takes it all in. All our family and friends were talking and laughing and dancing and it was just such a special moment to see everyone we loved in the one place.
What was your experience like planning your wedding, is there anything you would change?:
I absolutely loved planning my wedding! I would do it all again if I could. I knew exactly what I wanted. I got at least 5 quotes for everything and then chose based on price and suitability.
If I could do it all over again, the one thing I would change would be my dress. Although I loved my dress, it was ridiculously expensive and it wasn’t exactly what I had in mind. Due to a change in our wedding date I had less time to shop for the perfect dress than I would have liked.
How did you manage your budget?:
I used a spreadsheet to manage my budget. I worked it so that I had an estimated cost column and an actual cost column that totalled to show a running cost and then how much was also left in my budget. It was really good! I didn’t quite keep to my budget but I started with an unrealistic idea of how little I could spend.
Tell us about the wedding vendors you chose:
Our photographer was Scott McCourt (White Boda Photography) He was amazing! He did my best friends wedding and after seeing him work we had to have him! It was like he wasn’t even there! He mingled with our guests and captured some great moments. He actually flew from India into the Gold Coast just for our wedding – talk about commitment! We didn’t have a videographer. That was a decision we made early on and we don’t regret it at all. Not only are videographers expensive but our photos tell the story of our day and the memories of the day are for us and our guests.
We hired furniture from Hampton Event hire and Arctic Fox Events, and we hired greenery from The Planted Co. We chose these companies because they had/provided us with exactly what we wanted. Price was good, communication was great and the quality of the products we hired we excellent on the day.
My cake was from Two Little Bakers. I chose this company because they allowed my Mum and Grandma to do a cake tasting as Josh and I weren’t able to get to the Gold Coast from Newcastle to do it. My Mum and Grandma has such a great morning eating cakes.
We didn’t have wedding favours. Instead we donated money to the NSW Bush Fire Relief and made it known to our guests that this is what we had done to support those affected by the bush fires.
Do you have any tips for other brides?:
My tip for other brides would be to make sure you know what you want before you start planning and getting quotes. It can get very confusing, but if you have a clear idea of colour schemes, layout, flow, food etc. it will make the process so much easier. I had a folder of photos on my phone that I saved when I saw something I liked and I would regularly go back to the folder and delete photos that no longer fit or I didn’t love anymore.
