Kathryn + Dylan’s beautiful marquee wedding in Brisbane was filled with lush florals, vibrant colours and twinkling lights. Set at the bride’s family home, their day was inspired by a relaxed, garden-party vibe which was brought to life by careful planning and a hard-working team of suppliers.
Bold red and blush florals along with hundreds of fairy lights were suspended over timber feasting tables and white bentwood chairs in the clear marquee. Fresh whites, greenery and colourful details were a recurring theme throughout the styling, helping to transform this Brisbane backyard into one showstopper of a wedding.
We spoke to the happy couple about their experience planning a marquee wedding, the team of suppliers who helped them along the way, and their advice for future brides-to-be. Take a peek at the stunning imagery by Summit Studio below along with our tips on recreating this look!
Describe your wedding day? The perfect day full of love, laughter and fun.
Where did you find your inspiration for your wedding day? We had a good idea before starting planning of what we wanted: outdoors, relaxed but still vibrant. When we started looking we went mainly to wedding blogs, magazine and the classic fail safe, Pinterest.
Where was your wedding venue and why did you choose them? The bride’s family home. We were looking for somewhere to have an outdoor wedding in inner Brisbane, but without being locked in to the vendors prescribed by venues.
Who was your celebrant and why did you choose them? Alana Salm. Bubbly, bright and fun to go with our theme. As there was no disjoint between ceremony and party, we needed an upbeat celebrant to get people in the mood for the rest of the evening.
Who was your florist and why did you choose them? Stem Design because they are the BEST! Dylan and Nicole have been pals for a number of years and once I saw her work we had to have her do our wedding.
What was the feel and style of your wedding? Garden Party Cocktail.
Who was your photographer and why did you choose them? Matt Taylor from Summit Studio. The groom is a photographer so it was left to him to decide who to entrust to our big day. He and Matt went through university together.
How did you manage your budget? We knew we wanted good quality everything which doesn’t come cheap, but by doing a few DIYs and borrowing bits and pieces from friends helped a lot (oil lamps on the tables, bench seats etc).
What was your experience like planning your wedding? Hard at some points, mainly to make the initial decisions, but once that was over , it was very easy and relaxed. We had a good focus on the main importance being that we were there surrounded by our loved ones, so any small details didn’t matter so much.
Who was your on the day coordinator and why did you choose them? Michelle from We Love Love. Recommended to us by our florist so we knew she must be amazing. On first meeting I knew Michelle was the one to trust our day to! Fun, bubbly and on the ball.
What were the highlights on the day? The whole day really, but mainly, Dylan (groom) wrote a song with his music producer friend, got the band to learn it, and performed it as part of his speech in the reception.
Do you have any tips for other brides? Relax, its not just your day, its your groom, your family and your friends day too.
If you could do it all over again, is there anything you would change? Start earlier to go longer!
