If you’ve already booked your wedding venue, start here! Your chosen wedding venue is basically the backbone of your entire celebrations, and your wedding styling should complement your location to create a harmonious setting.
Think about the overall look and feel of your wedding venue – is it a romantic garden location? An industrial-style warehouse? A glamorous function room at a high-end hotel? This should give you an initial indication of the styling direction that will work well in your chosen space.
Try to work with your venue as much as possible, and not against it. For example, if you’ve chosen a beautiful waterfront venue filled with natural light, a dark and moody industrial-style setting is probably going to clash. Instead, you might decide to keep your styling relaxed with coastal tones and elegant decor, to better complement this location.

Your wedding day should be a reflection of you and your partner, so it’s important to consider your own personal style, too!
A great place to look for inspiration is your home decor and even your wardrobe. How would you best describe your style in these areas? Take note of any words that come to mind like modern, minimal, bohemian, glamorous – these are all great adjectives that can be carried across into your wedding styling, too.
The best part about planning a wedding is that you can make it totally unique to you and your partner. Details like your favourite colour, favourite flower, favourite textures and prints can all make their way into your wedding styling – this will help your day feel truly personal.

Pinterest really is a god-send for any bride, and it’s one of the best ways to start figuring out what you like – and what you DON’T like! – when it comes to wedding styling.
If you haven’t already (although let’s be honest – you definitely have ;)), sit down and spend some time on Pinterest curating inspiration for your big day. From floral arrangements to table settings and lighting, start pinning any images that you’re immediately drawn to.
When you’re done, you should be able to look over your inspiration and identify the commonalities between each pin. Maybe it’s a particular colour scheme that keeps jumping out, maybe it’s a certain style of furniture and decor, maybe it’s simply an overall “vibe” that you’re resonating with.
Make a note of these common links and use this to try and summarise your overall wedding style – for example, “a relaxed cocktail reception filled with bright colours and tropical details” or “a modern industrial reception with a monochrome colour palette and wire furniture”. Now you should have a clear idea of the styling direction you want to take for your big day!
